Mental Illness

Mental Illness refers to mental, emotional, and psychiatric disorders, Illnesses or conditions resulting from organic, non-organic, biological, non- biological, genetic, chemical or non-chemical origins. Common mental illnesses include (but are not limited to) psychoses; neurotic disorders; bipolar disorders; affective disorders; personality disorders; psychological or behavioral abnormalities, associated with transient or permanent dysfunction of the brain or related neurohomonal systems. To be considered a mental illness, the insured person must have the illness diagnosed by a licensed physician, working under the guidelines of the most up-to-date version of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV-R or the most recent edition of the International Classification of Diseases ICD-9-CM.
